What the price includes

  • The whole fare for this exact trip, agreed before you get in — nothing added at the end.
  • Any airport or cruise terminal access charge and all motorway tolls.
  • 30 minutes of waiting at no charge at a terminal, 15 minutes anywhere else, then an hourly rate. A delayed flight moves the pick-up instead, and costs nothing.
  • Luggage for up to 4 passengers. A minivan is available for larger groups.
  • Card or cash, your choice. Most trips are paid in the car; on some I ask for a deposit or the fare in advance.

Pick-up and the border

Almost every Andorra transfer starts at BCN Airport, and I meet you inside arrivals with a sign. Ski and board bags are fine — tell me how many when you book so I bring the right car.

The Spanish–Andorran border at La Farga de Moles is an ordinary customs post. It is usually a slow roll-through, but on Sunday evenings in winter, when day-trippers head home, it can take twenty minutes. It costs nothing extra either way.

Andorra is outside the EU customs union, so there are limits on what you can bring back — mostly relevant on the return trip with tobacco and alcohol. I will point out the limits if you ask, but what you carry is your business.

Over the mountains

It is around 200 km and about two hours forty-five minutes, on the C-16 through the Túnel del Cadí and then up the valley. The last hour is genuine mountain road and the scenery is the best part of the trip.

In winter I carry chains and run winter tyres, and I check the state of the passes before setting off. If the road is closed we will know before you land, not halfway up.

It is a long enough drive that a break is welcome. There is a good stop at Bellver de Cerdanya, roughly two thirds of the way, and stopping costs nothing.

The ski stations, not just the capital

Give me the hotel, the chalet or the apartment and the price is worked out to that address rather than to the capital. The stations sit in two different valleys, which changes the drive more than the map suggests.

Andorra la Vella and Escaldes

The capital and the spa town beside it. This is the price shown above; every other address here is worked out from the same table, to the door.

Encamp

On the main valley road below Canillo. The Funicamp gondola climbs from the town straight into Grandvalira, so staying here puts you on the same slopes without staying at the top.

Canillo and El Tarter

The lower Grandvalira villages, both on the CG-2. These are the easiest ski addresses to reach in poor weather because neither of them needs a mountain pass.

Soldeu

The best-known Grandvalira base, further up the Valira d’Orient valley. Most of the hotels on the main road are ski-in, ski-out.

Pas de la Casa

The far side of Port d’Envalira, on the French border — the highest station and the longest of these drives. In winter the pass is the part worth watching, and I check it before setting off.

Arinsal and Pal

A different valley: up through La Massana rather than along the Grandvalira road. Pal-Arinsal is the smaller ski area and the quieter drive.

Getting there another way

A taxi is not always the right answer. Here is the honest comparison for this trip.

Questions about this trip

Do you use winter tyres and carry chains?

Yes, in season, and I check the state of the passes before we leave. If a road is closed you will hear from me before you get on the plane.

Can you take skis and snowboards?

Yes. Tell me how many bags and boards when you book so I bring a car with the space. Larger groups get the minivan.

Do you go to the ski resorts as well as the capital?

Yes — Soldeu, El Tarter, Canillo, Encamp, Pas de la Casa and Arinsal, along with Andorra la Vella and Escaldes. Give me the hotel and the price is worked out to it.

Is there anything to pay at the border?

No. The crossing is free and the tolls are already in the price. Customs limits on goods are a matter between you and the officers.
